VCI Headquarters - Escape with the Iris using no medipack
A good way to improve TR playing is to give up the medipacks and the stronger
weapons. Thus we have 3 further difficulty options inside the same game:
- give up the higher weapons (just the basic one are allowed, usually the regular
pistols or the HK in TR5/VCI Headquarters), the "pistols only" style,
- give up the medipacks: the "no medi" style,
- both: "pistols only, no medi".
Escape with the Iris is quite hard to do without medi (getting all
the Secrets), however it can be done. Some tips:
- while in the 2nd elevator, press "left" during the movie
(of ascending elevator) to gain time: Lara will rotate immediately after the
movie and the doors can be closed very quickly, say with only 10% energy loss.
- Next the guard of Secret #2 (in the "acquarium"): exit the
crawlspace backward, so that Lara can start running without rolling,
run/jump to the acquarium with a S-path to avoid bullets, get the
rose, backflip, sideflip, sprint to safe place. This can cost further
30% energy loss.
- To get Secret #3, climb up and jump the "#" marks, where the gun
is aimed. Use the shortest path to the secret alcove, the left one:
here the gun shoots at the window section. Further 10% energy loss. To exit, climb down the same way and sprint on
the ramp jumping the obstacle (where the laser was). Thus you are at 50%.
- Now the difficult part: on the ledge in the room with laser floor,
roll and roll until glass brakes, then press the exit button under the guard
fire: 40% energy loss!
- On the other hand, the guard of 1672 code is easy: wait near the door, 1
square and half away, then (just a moment before he crosses
the automatic door) sideflip and spint into the X-Ray control room. If
you are perfect, the guard (who reacts with some delay: good AI) pass the door when Lara is on the other
side, so that the door will close behind you, and you can do what you
want from now on. If you are less perfect, just sprint in, press the
button and sprint to the final crawlspace, leaving some 5% energy to
the guard, and giving up the large medi, who cares? Now you are at 5% and can end the level.
Actually I ended Escape with the Iris with my health
bar flashing at full red and very very very short...
